{Competition}: Join the Diary Geeks Club!

I am a list and diary loving kinda gal. I get a kick from writing an ordered list and ticking things off. I get an even bigger buzz from having things to put in my diary and having a pretty organiser that I can admire just by flicking through the pages. Yeah I actually do that. In fact I like diaries so much I usually have one in hand by at least October or the start of November the year before it’s actually supposed to be in use. Sometimes I have diary dates with my bestie. We get ours out together and swap dates or inform each other of where we need each other to be. We are full blown diary geeks and we love it. If there was a diary geeks anonymous association we’d be fully involved. I have tried to inflict such organisational wonderment on Mr Vick but he has what you would call a diary allergy.

Life is getting hectic with a toddler who now has his own dates, with a business run from home, socialising, and an occasional working Mum. It all gets a bit where am I and when and who’s on kid duty? And lets be honest our heads can’t be relied upon for remembering any details these days can it? So, it’s time we got ourselves a family organiser. Something tailored perfectly to our families needs, something with the right graphs and lines and categories. It’s gotta be formatted just right AND it’s gotta be Mr Vick friendly and trust me the market out there is small for this. That’s why I was a little bit wrapped when David from Personal Planners contacted me and educated me about their fantastical site and service which in a nut shell allows your to completely design you’re own diary/planner online. No retail time required ’cos lets face it wondering around the shops looking for that diary with the right margins can be a time consuming/draining job. Personal Planners allow you to be the boss of your own diary or notebook and it can look as pretty and plain as you want. Perhaps something creative like these:

Bit snazzy yes? I know Little Vick would be digging that plane one.

Personal planners provide you with endless design possibilities. You can change colour, text and design on front/back cover as well as inlay. There are also clever boxes for to-do list, gym session, school, idea of the week and weather (I LOVE THIS). Friend’s and family member’s birthdays can also be added to the inlay directly from Facebook. They print and deliver the finished product directly to our your doorstep and to top it off you can decided what date and month you want the diary to start from. I rate that.

It’s enough to get my diary geek going for sure. I’m gonna give the Vick monster family organiser a go through Personal Planners. It’s going to be the snazziest, sort our life out tool you’ve ever seen AND you can get one of these too. David has offered one Knocked Up and Abroad reader the opportunity to design their own organiser/notebook. Yeah, that’s right. This is a competition! And it’s pretty neat that it’s just in time for the return of school… when the real year starts yes?

What you need to do to enter:

1) Like Knocked Up and Abroad on Facebook, which you can do here

2) Like Personal Planners on Facebook, which you can do here

3) Leave a comment below about what organisational tool gets your life in ship shape order

The competition will be drawn at random on Tuesday 5th of February at 9pm via the Knocked Up Facebook page. The winner has 3 days to contact me to claim their prize and international entrants are welcome (woot woot).

In the meantime head over to the Personal Planners website for some further educating and browsing here.

Good luck my little diary geeks!

I don’t know how it happened but I’ve got a full on train, plane and crashing car fanatic on my hands. I didn’t teach him any of it. He even goes to sleep holding his plane. That’s a serious crush isn’t it? A day in his pace of driving and zooming around is nothing less than super buzzuko. His stamina is scary, that’s why I love seeing him pull up and the instant calm that washes over him come book time. Reading is one of those things that I’ve passionately insisted on for like ever. We read everyday. Every time before he goes to sleep if nothing else. He now demands it and that’s one of his demands I can live with.

A book is a never fail gift for him and I love seeing what types of books people choose for him. One of his favourites was a gift. It’s one of those, how did you find that kinda books? It’s so interactive and so out of the norm, that it can be deemed nothing else but amazeballs. That could be my official review right there.

Press Here or as it’s affectionately referred to in our house The Dot book, is stimulating even for the adult reader. It’s an all pressing, shaking, clapping kinda book ‘cos that’s what the reader is instructed to do by the narrator. It was written after press screen technology swept the world and en-captured us and our children’s attention. It’s a touch screen in a book. Cool, yes? It’s both visually and physically engaging. It’s ace for a wide age gap too. I’d say kids aged between 18 months and 6 would find something good about this.

It’s even got it’s own book trailer on YouTube! Seriously… I had not the foggiest such things existed for books!

This week Press Here is apart of the blog’s final birthday competition. Yes, these competitions can’t go on forever although I have loved giving things away and hearing all your wonderful comments and the fact you’ve taken the time to take a chance and enter.

This competition is not brought to you by a company but is rather my shout! A thank you from me.

To enter the competition, you must:

A) Follow Knocked Up and Abroad on Facebook

&

B) Leave a comment below telling me what you favourite children’s book is!

The competition will be drawn randomly on Thursday the 6th of December at 8pm via Facebook. Sorry only Aussie entrants (again).

 Good luck gang!

Nature Direct Birthday Competition

I was invited to a cleaning party. I know it sounds utterly groovy doesn’t it? But it was actually a real education for me and it changed my house wife godessness forever.

It’s true I’d always been a bit green or keen to think I was doing the right thing but it wasn’t until I heard some very sobering facts about chemicals in our household products that I shipped up and converted to Nature Direct of which now I am 100% devoted to their chemical free cleaning products. Forever.

I was pregnant at the time of the party and what left me gobsmacked was information about how cleaning chemicals are inhaled, absorbed and passed through the placenta to our unborn babies. A study showed that some babies were being born with up to 287 synthetic chemicals in their blood stream. I was ignorantly exposing and polluting my innocent mini being in my belly… I felt really shitty about that. That was my wake up call.

Australia is a naughty country in terms of labelling and citing ingredients in products. We truly have no clue what is really in our cleaning products or more to the point the quantities of chemicals that are being used and believe me many of them are bad. Bad arse for your EVERYTHING. Even a lot of those old favourites you’ve always used, cos your Mum did. Bad. The ingredient’s in Nature Directs products are mostly plant derivatives. For example in the Heavy Duty Cleaner & Disinfectant: Corn, tree sap, coconut extract, sugar cane & deionized water. Fairly innocent, yes? Reassuringly safe, definitely.

Mr Vick has always had asthma. We had never questioned what triggered his symptoms, until Nature Direct came into our home. He noticed a huge decrease in his asthma symptoms when I started using their products. One day out of curiousity I used the old toilet cleaning nasty that we’d always used only for Mr Vick to instantly come down with some nasty breathing issues in the blink of an eye. He has barely had a day of asthma since I bought Nature Direct into our house. It’s looking more and more like there is a definite link between the increase of allergies and illnesses and the products we use around the home. It makes sense. We use super nasties to kill off nasty germs, which also kills all the good germs which our body actually needs and we end up sick.

I feel safe with having Nature Direct in our home. I liberally spray it on Little Vick’s high chair and know that it’s safe for him to inhale and eat off. No problemo. It’s all natural. I no longer have to worry about if he accidentally breaks into the cleaning cupboard. He could drink the whole lot and he’d be perfectly fine. No panic and rushing off to the hospital because he’s consumed poison.

So I’ve yabbered on a bit here. I could keep going all day. There is so much I’d like to share with you about these products AND I’m not even being paid to rave about them. You just need to know Nature Direct is safe, friendly and it works. There’s heaps of products to choose from too. Have a peek on their website.

So I’m super excited that Carlie (another awesome Mum running a business from home) from Nature Direct is offering one lucky reader a little pack to get your chemical free journey started:

1 x Heavy Duty Cleaner & Disinfectant & 1 x Kitchen Micro fibre cloth

I remember Carlie recommending me to use this cleaner on all my surfaces at home straight up to banish any chemical residues left behind by my old cleaning products. I also recall her singing it praises as it has been known to get hard core grease stains off. It’s that good. It’s handy for the kitchen, bathroom and toilet too. The cloth is your versatile little helper which endures wash after wash. Very nifty.

If you want to know more about the products head over to Carlie’s Facebook page. She’s a friendly type. You can also place on order through this page too or book a demo party.

To enter this comp you need to do the following:

1. Follow Knocked Up and Abroad on Facebook

{Competition} Ruby Bug Pretties!

Here at Knocked Up and Abroad we’re still celebrating the big 1st birthday! In fact the whole month is dedicated to it with a competition a week! This week I am most envious I wont be getting to keep these little treasures but I know 2 lucky readers are going to loooove these little gems.

Anita over at Ruby Bug Designs is one of those clever Mummy’s who has found a way to make some pocket money from being creative whilst being a stay at home Mum. I really admire such woman. Sometimes I think I should get my creative on (make use of my Pinterest day dreaming) but alas, I’ll leave it to the likes of Anita who creates prettiness with such ease. She makes hand made, good quality hair clips, head bands, hair ties and all things pretty.

Anita has kindly offered 2 prize packs for Knocked Up and Abroad readers this week for that little lady (sorry boys!) in your life.

Pack A:

Pair of adorable red butterflies on baby snap clips & soft pink headband with spotty snap clip. Please note the headband in this pack will fit a 3-6 month old

Pack B:

A pair of black stars on alligator clips, a crochet flower on a large snap clip & silver glitter flower on a large snap clip!

Pretty pretty, yes?

Competition: Bachelorette Film Party!

November marks Knocked Up & Abroads 1st birthday! From baby to toddler this little blog goes. I have been fully gob smacked at how supportive my readers have been and continue to be and the amount of new friends and followers I am making through this little creative project I started just so I had a little something for this Mummy self.

In thanks, I will be having a competition each week throughout November! *Applause*.

To kick it off, my buddy at Hopscotch Films wanted in to celebrate the occasion by introducing you to the new film “Bachelorette” which was generally released last Thursday.

Basically the synopsis goes like this (I may be paraphrasing a bit here)…. a girl is getting married and her 3 best friends from college meet in the one city to help her celebrate. They all have their own issues which combined creates some funny shenanigans. Obviously there is a bachelorette party with further funny shiz and lots of complexities that can only come from female friendship. In a nut shell it’s a funny kinda girls are a bit mental film. A great one for if you know a bride to be or just need some brain blah time with a girlfriend.

If you’re like me, then you would enjoy spotting an Aussie at the flicks and this film has 2 of them! Isla Fisher – seriously does that woman ever age? And Rebel Wilson – is there a cheekier woman alive? You may also know Kirsten Dunst who also is apart of the cast, but she has no claim to being Australian of course.

You can see the full trailer for the film here.

Now… the competition part pleeeease. Hopscotch Films are offering 3 double passes to Knocked Up & Abroad readers (passes can be used almost anywhere). To enter you must do the following 2 things:

1. Like Knocked Up & Abroad on Facebook

2. Leave a few words in the comments section below explaining what you think is/was the best thing about being a bachelorette.

Winners will be drawn next Monday (the 12th) evening at 8pm by random (pulled out of a hat style).

(Sorry, only Aussie entrants in this one)

A Little Gem: The Sapphires Movie Competition

I made it out to the flicks the other day. By myself, as you do. As it would have it, I was catching Hysteria which was the film at the centre of my last Date Night Competition.

What I love about once being in the acting world where I was surrounded by youth and up and comings full of promise and endless optimism is that now, a few years on, I catch glimpses of them in newspaper reviews and sight them on screens playing pretend and getting paid for it. I am sincerely thrilled for their success when this happens as I can appreciate the sacrifices and dedication that they’ve committed to get there. A road I would have hoped to have continued to go down if Little Vick didn’t pop up into the equation….. (but I’m more than happy he did – happiness is often found in the unlikeliest of places right?). Anywho, that’s why I was blissfully surprised when I caught a glimpse of this poster at the cinema

Perhaps you’ve seen it too? It’s the next up and coming Aussie flick which has been dubbed our version of the Dreamgirls. Incidentally it opens today.

I looked at the poster and went through the cast. Yep, Deborah Mailman – of course I know her, Jessica Mauboy – know her, Chris O’Dward – yep, some international actor who looks familiar… and then hold up….. MIRANDA TAPSELL!!!! Wooot!!!!

Miranda Tapsell. The aboriginal girl with a free spirited, country girl spark & sincere generosity whom I met during Mr Vick and I’s courting days when she was training at NIDA with him…. she’s made it onto the big screen… been to Cannes and all getting her la di dah film star on. What girls dream is that not?

From my readings, she’s dubbed a rising star. I’d say anyone who is hanging around at Cannes, and has been invited to do so, is totes a star… not much rising needed.

In these pictures, I see very little girl there anymore. I see a confident, sophisticated and successful woman. What a little gem! I couldn’t be happier for her AND I’m pretty happy with myself right now since Hopscotch films, my old buddies, have fessed up a whopping 10 double passes for me to give away to Knocked Up readers to enjoy The Sapphires during it’s theatrical season….. SO… I am happy to announce another Date Night Competition!!!! Woot woot!

Here’s what you need to do to enter:

1. Be a Knocked Up and Abroad fan on Facebook (that means you have to have ‘liked’ the page)

&

2. Since The Sapphires is all about a girl band going from strength to strength (based on a true story), tell me below in the comments section, who your favourite all girl or boy band is of all time? (And there are so many wonderful & woeful ones to choose from….)

And GO!

Entries will be drawn on Wednesday the 15th of August at 9pm (AEST)

Sorry, only Australian entries only.

The Sapphires trailer can be viewed here. GOOD LUCK! :)

HYSTERIA: Date Night Competition!

I’ve always been a big fan of date night whether it be with my man or my bestest girlfriends. Date night is a treat. I’ve learn’t as a mother it’s all about making time for a date night. It’s gotta be done, for sanity sake.

Being an old thespian a lot of date nights for me end up at the theatre or cinema. It’s like a second home. One night my bestie and I headed off to the theatre on a ‘date’. It’s not all that unusual for me to not really know what I’m about to see. In truth, on this occasion (like many) we were going to support a friend who had got a gig in some show. I’m not sure why we were surprised by the orgasmic nature of the content when the show was named ”In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play“. Lucky we’re not conservatives…..not that it was pornographic or anything….. but you can presume it was a provocative comedy. A light and giggle worthy one about a common condition suffered by woman in Victorian England, called Hysteria. This condition covered everything from insomnia to toothache. The cure was a session with a handy  doctor……who ultimately invented the vibrator which miraculously cured this ”hysteria”. Woman suddenly became aware of the power of an orgasm and started to expect more in the bedroom with this unaware and hopeless husbands. There may have been a little romance in there too, naturally. It was definitely good date night value. SO, when I heard that the film version (titled Hysteria) was being release with one of my favourite actresses, Maggie Gyllenhaal in it, I knew this was SO worthy for a girlfriend date and don’t we all deserve a date and a bit of giggle?

That’s why I’m excited to say…. thanks to Hopscotch films…. I have 5 double passes to give away to the film Hysteria which opens nationally on July 12th, to YOU my readers! The passes are valid in any capital city (excluding Tassie – SORRY!) and can be used anytime during the duration of it’s season. SO get ready to get your bestie in tow for this one.

To enter all you have to do is this:

Be a follower of Knocked Up and Abroad on Facebook

&

Leave some comment luv below about what your favourite thing to do on a date is

& GO!

I will announce the winner next Tuesday night (the 10th of July)!!!

In the mean time check out the trailer here
